The Rotaract Club of Heritage Institute of Technology organized the Inaugural Sports Festival on the 31st of August, 2010, for "Surya-Kiran", an under-privileged school run by the Kalyan Bharti Trust.
-- The event was held on the Heritage School Grounds and not even the erratic rain could dampen the spirits of the enthusiastic Rotaractors or that of the kids. The event started at 4:30pm with the welcome speech by Rtr. Dibya Chatterjee. This was followed by encouraging words from the Principal of The Heritage School, Ms. Sapru, the Vice-Principal Ms. Atal and Rtn. Sushil Sethia of Rotary Club of Calcutta Mahanagar. Various events like Var-Vadhu Race, Candy Race, Hurdle Race, Tunnel Race, Flat Race etc. was organized for the kids and even though the ground was wet, everyone present thoroughly enjoyed themselves!
Following the sports events, the kids were assembled in the Auditorium for a Singing and Dancing competition. This event exceeded all our expectations as it received huge participation from the kids who sang and danced to popular Bengali numbers.
Prizes in the form of drawing books, pencil boxes, sketch pens, water bottles etc. were given to winners of the sports events and the singing and dancing events. Approximately 300 note books were also handed over to the Coordinator of Surya-Kiran so that they can be used by the students of the school.
Overall, the event was a huge success and the Club would like to take this opportunity to thank all the members of the authorities of The Heritage School and Heritage Institute of Technology for supporting us through out! The event would have been impossible without the help of Cdr. Dey. Thank so much Sir! As always, Rtn. Sushil Sethia and Rtn. Manoj Mohnot were there to support us through the day!
Moreover, this project, being the last for Rtr. Adrisha Chakraborty as President of the Club, was an ideal way to sign off as President, raise the bar of the Club, and pass the baton on to the next President.
